Chalchuapa - Cojute 67-99 There was no surprise when 10th ranked Chalchuapa (1-10) was crushed at home by third ranked Cojute (8-4) 99-67. Cojute dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 46. They outrebounded Chalchuapa 63-33 including a 21-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Cojute players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Chalchuapa's players. The game was dominated by American players. It was a good game for guard Jeremy Agosto (177-1997, agency: The French Family Consulting) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 8 assists. Center Troidell Carter (206-1991, college: Slippery Rock) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 23 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. Cojute's coach Jose Rivas felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gorg Alhag (190-1997, college: Mayville St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds and point guard Robert Story (183, college: WSSU) added 18 points in the effort for Chalchuapa. Cojute have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place with 8-4 record having just one point less than leader Santa Tecla. Chalchuapa at the other side stay at the bottom position with ten games lost. Cojute will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Chalchuapa will play on the road against Metapan (#4) to get more than just one victory in their record. Second ranked Santa Tecla (10-1) played at the court of 5th ranked Fantasmas (4-6). Santa Tecla defeated Fantasmas 89-75 on Monday. Santa Tecla made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game, while Fantasmas only scored five points from the stripe. Santa Tecla forced 20 Fantasmas turnovers. The best player for the winners was Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-1994) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds. Dominican Darwin Cabrera chipped in 23 points. Five Santa Tecla players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Caleb Bowser (193, college: Georgian Court) who recorded 29 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import Nick Moore (198-1991, college: Alliance) added 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively. Santa Tecla keeps a position of league leader. Fantasmas at the other side dropped to the sixth place with six games lost. They share the position with Quezaltepeque. Santa Tecla are looking forward to face Santa Ana (#5) at home in the next round. Fantasmas will have a break next round. Metapan smashed Santa Ana 109-74. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Santa Ana. Metapan shot 62.0 percent from the field. They outrebounded Santa Ana 39-28 including a 34-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Metapan players were unselfish on offense dishing 35 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Santa Ana's players. It was a good game for Lee Vasquez (176-1991) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 11 assists. Nicaraguan guard Deikel Sanchez (-1996) contributed with 25 points and 8 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners. Five Metapan players scored in double figures. American guard Marcus Feagin (193-1991) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import forward Jose Ortiz (190-1990, college: DelVal) added 27 points in the effort for Santa Ana. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Metapan moved-up to fourth place. Santa Ana at the other side dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Metapan will play against bottom-ranked Chalchuapa (#10) at home in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Santa Ana will play against the league's leader Santa Tecla (#1) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
